Year 4 and 5 students at Hawkesdale P12 have voted for their Yabba nominations this morning. Both year levels voted Just stupid, Andy Griffiths and Specky Magee, Felice Arena/Gary Lyon 1st and 2nd respectively. Year 5s voted Bumface, Morris Gleitzman 3rd, we couldn't split a 4 way tie for 3rd with the year 4s. Picture book nominations: Year 4 Old Tom's holiday, Leigh Hobbs and year 5s voted Rascal the dragon, Paul Jennings as their favourite. A fun exercise.

Year 6 students at Hawkesdale P12 are nominating their favourite books today for their class YABBA nomination. Wonder what will win? One of may favourites is an Alison Lester book too, Are we there yet? I love the journey around Australia. It reminds me of our trip to WA a couple of years ago.

What a fantastic concept that the book choices of students across Australia are validated. What we read for (p)leisure says volumes about ourselves!

Alison Lester's 'The Magic Beach', which conjures so many happy holiday memories, remains one of my favorite Picture Book stories.
